Through the Volunteerism Always Pays (VAP) program, the Walmart Foundation awards grants to eligible organizations where associates volunteer. In 2012, Walmart associates volunteered more than 2.2 million hours and generated more than $18 million in local grants through the VAP program.
Walmart has also committed itself to donating money for many community relief programs with one of their most resent commitments to fight hunger in America.  Walmart and the Walmart Foundation have committed themselves to donate $2 billion dollars in cash and in-kind donations through 2015, stepping up efforts to fight hunger in America. Part of this commitment involves mobilizing Walmart associates and customers. For example, Walmart's logistics team is lending their expertise to help food banks become more efficient in their operations.Walmart has made great strides in forming partnerships with local farmers, bringing the consumers fresh local products which benefit both the consumer and the suppliers.
